Income Tax Office in Arunachal Under Active Consideration ...

T.M. Das, Commissioner of Income Tax ?(TDS), NER, Guwahati ?informed that Income Tax ?contributes ?almost 60 per cent ?of the taxes of the Government of India thus making the Income Tax department as one of the most important revenue earning departments.?In his keynote address at the seminar on Income Tax ( Tax Deduction at Source-TDS) ?held at Banquet hall here today ?Das stated that a major portion of the Income Tax being collected by the central government from the states comes back in the form of allocations under different central schemes/grants/subsidies etc for the infrastructural and other developmental programmes.

Das said setting up of an Income Tax office in the state at Itanagar is under active consideration. He said that Income Tax department has been a partner in the nation building process through progressive tax policy, efficient and effective tax administration and improved voluntary compliance.?During the last financial year, collection of the NER amounted to Rs. 4450.7 crores, he informed adding that 90 per cent ?of the development fund for NE states comes from GoI revenue collected from taxes including IT.

The Development Commissioner (Finance), GoAP, Ramesh ?Negi taking part in the seminar, said that ?Taxes are the fuel for running the Govt.? He emphasized the need for optimizing the direct tax collection from Arunachal Pradesh ?by ensuring the proper and efficient implementation of ?TDS in the state, and added that the revenue generated by the GoI through taxes such as Income Tax is utilized for the various developmental programmes of the states funded by Central Govt. ?Negi also stressed on strengthening the TDS collections by implementation of ?Income Tax Act 1961 and streamlining the TDS system on proper e-filing of TDS statements and returns for augmenting revenue collection under Income tax (TDS). The Development Commissioner also emphasized capacity building as a vital factor in such efforts.

Special Secretary (Finance), Swati Sharma addressing the participants on the occasion, stressed on their role in ?contributing to the development of the country by ensuring the optimum collections of Income tax (TDS) and further asked for timely and correct filing of IT returns. She also called for feed back of the participants on various issues faced by them while implementing the TDS process in the state.?S.Sen, S.Nag and Sumit Purkayastha, Income Tax ?officers as resource persons spoke and clarified on the various legal provisions of Income Tax Law with special focus on e-filing and compliance to TDS provisions.

The seminar on Income Tax ( Tax Deduction at Source-TDS) ?was jointly organized by Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), NE Region, Guwahati and the Department of Finance, Government of Arunachal Pradesh..?HODs, Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) of government offices, educational and financial institutions and treasury and sub-treasury officers of the state participated in the day-long review and awareness programme.?This is the 2nd such seminar held in the state as part of capacity building efforts to streamline and strengthen the TDS collection in the state.
