The Savvy Girl's Guide | The Effortless Chic

By: Emily Westervelt

This is our first ever Effortless Chic video of any kind! ?Can you believe it? ?What did you think? ?How cute is that table runner? Are you obsessed with it? I am!

Here?s the skinny on everything you?ll need to recreate the table featured in that video for whatever your next big fete may be:

1. Table Runner

Why, what a perfect opportunity for a pop of color or a striking pattern! Our little number is obviously quite a conversation starter, because it?s so bold and yet so classic; but whatever shade or print your party requires, a runner is a fantastic complimentary element for your table and a casual alternative to the standard tablecloth. ?We made this using fabric from International Silks and Woolens in Los Angeles, an iron and a heavy duty adhesive? no sewing required!

2. Charger Plates

Again, use every occasion to accent your table. The charger plate is traditionally used for decoration underneath each course?s plate. It stays, despite the arrival of the next course on its own individual dish. Spice up your neutral table with a bold pattern; keep your composition balanced with a muted pattern like these that we used; use your aesthetic expertise and definitely take advantage of the luxury a charger plate contributes.

3. Main Course Plates

You need these to serve your food?the reason you got together, right? To eat and be merry? Incorporate the necessary sizes if you are serving appetizers or salads, and don?t be afraid of shaking it up. Try using a different color or varying the shape between courses. ?Ours are here.

4. Napkins

How adorable are these floral linen napkins? Bright and fresh for summer, the napkin should coincide with the table runner ? they are, after all, the only fabrics on the table and placed inevitably near each other. Remember your initial design scheme and plan in advance whether you are utilizing bold & neutral, metallic & neutral, bold & metallic, bold & bold, neutral & neutral, you catch my drift? Let your imagination run wild.

5. Flatware of Choice

Again, plan in advance based on your occasion, menu, overall composition of the table, your guest list and their needs. We had a simple flatware, but if yours is more ornate, let that be your statement piece. It?s all about orchestrating a balance.

6. Champagne Glasses

Oh, wait. This is the reason we?re all getting together. To drink and be merry? Precisely! We could never have an effortlessly chic dinner party without the glamorous cocktail and appropriate glasses!

7.?Water Glasses

No matter how delicious the champagne, the water glass is still a must! ?We got ours here.

8. Personalized Place Cards

So your guests feel special and know exactly where their place is at your elegantly designed and beautifully executed table. A handmade, handwritten tag is a lovely, easily achieved, and totally affordable way to add a final personal touch. ? We made these with small oak tags from Jen?s styling kit and some bright pink raffia. ?And, I mean, how adorable is the raffia?

9. Centerpiece

Nothing beats fresh flowers in my book. ?Just keep the arrangements low enough not to impede eye contact and conversation between guests. ?These mercury vases are available here.

Let?s get together, yeah yeah yeah. Would love to see pictures of your future perfectly styled soirees? send them over!

xx
