You must protect your computer. Most people realise that the advance in computer technology effects us both positively and negatively. The most common things that are stolen include names, phone numbers, addresses and credit card numbers. So if you do not save them on your pc in the first place, the hacker cannot find them.

3. Scan all files before you run them. At one point in time people simply suggested that you avoid programs sent to you by strangers. Today it?s really not safe to open files from anyone (without scanning the files) because that?s how viruses get spread ? through files ? even by mistake. So accepting anything from anyone without scanning it could result in your computer being infected. Be safe and scan each and every file you download from the Internet or receive through email regardless of where it came from.

4. Make sure others can see your computer. Anti-virus/anti-spyware programs are only effective after the effect. But you can prevent identity theft from occurring by installing a firewall. A firewall is software that checks all data entering and exiting a computer and it then blocks that which doesn?t meet specified security criteria (user-defined rules).

5. Avoid any spam email containing links. In an effort to obtain personal information, some spammers will send email that asks you to click on a link. You will be asked to click on a link to visit a website, and these emails often look like they have come from a bank or similar service. You can expect one of two things to come from this, one is a software download and the other is entering your information, which will be disguised with a log in form of some sort.
