Three Caltrain accidents in six days | San Jose Personal Injury ...

Bay area residents likely heard that three people have been struck by Caltrains recently within a six-day period. Two of these instances were fatal, and a third man did survive being struck by the train.

The most recent incident took place early Saturday at about 12:30 a.m. when a southbound train struck a man near downtown Burlingame. The man was transported to a hospital, where he died of his injuries. On the Wednesday prior, a man was killed when a northbound train struck him just south of a station in San Jose. And on Monday of last week, a man survived being struck by a northbound train just south of the San Francisco exit.

All three of the incidents are reportedly under investigation by Caltrain and very little information has been publicly released about the cause of any of these accidents.

Certain catastrophic accidents require not only internal investigations, but also merit specialized legal attention. Train accidents present unique issues that cannot be compared to more common occurrences such as car accidents. Often, it is important that victims or their surviving family members have their own investigators looking at the situation to see if any negligence contributed to the accident.

Legal recourse is often available in these situations in order to provide some compensation to victims and their family members. When an accident causes death or severe injuries, in addition to the emotional anguish, expenses can be very damaging to survivors. Compensation is often available for medical or funeral expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering, among other financial effects of such a tragedy.
